For many years John Roloff has examined geological change and the forces behind biological shifts in our planet’s history. Roloff’s work builds an awareness of transformations on and beneath the earth’s surface, while addressing parallels in the history of human interactions. John Roloff has recently completed several public art commissions adapting specific elements of a site’s geography or geological history. In Seattle he devised a garden built underneath an overpass of Interstate 5 with timed artificial lighting and rain supporting a living environment complete with programmed seasonal changes. Project: Oculus, the first of a series of thematic treatises examining the art work of John Roloff can be ordered here.
