Randy Hussong / J.otto Seibold
February 6 - March 2, 2023

Randy Hussong
Gallery Paule Anglim is pleased to exhibit an installation of new work by Randy Hussong titled Reverse Rake / Metal Flake.

Randy Hussong will present works he has developed over the last few years that meld two cultures of transportation of the West: cars and horses. Expanding upon the theme of the rodeo, the artist has stylistically altered these horse figures according to the guidelines of hot rod car 'customizing': chopping, channeling, stretching and lowering. The transformed horses comically address genetic engineering and are full of exaggeration, making us ponder the evolution of style, whether it is applied to roadsters, horses or sculpture.

Over the past years Hussong has adapted the vernacular of car modification into his own language of symbols examining contemporary art forms. Hussong has shown in the Bay Area for over a decade, providing satirical discourse on modern society and the conventions of painting and sculpture. He is on the faculty of the Department of Art Practice at the University of California at Berkeley.

J.otto Seibold
Gallery Paule Anglim is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by J.otto.

J.otto Seibold will present an installation built upon a colorful backdrop of digitally mastered cartoon imagery printed on poster-size sheets. Playful hand-made elements layered on top of this 'wallpaper'-surface include the artist's drawings, digital prints, photography and collages.

Seibold is a self-taught artist who works in nearly all media that he encounters, including web-based art, television, audio recordings, children's books and printed clothing. With a broad, enthusiastic fan-base, his work ignores borders between fine and commercial art. His devoted followers include art collectors, children and their parents, many of them members of the art community.

Recent art exhibitions include installations at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco and at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.
