Eva Hesse

Gallery Paule Anglim is pleased to announce an exhibition of works by Eva Hesse.

The Eva Hesse show, which opens January 8 through February 8, 2003, will feature artworks from the artist's estate, both early drawings (1959-1960) and sculpture (1966-1967) covering different aspects of her intense short career.

This exhibition is the only private gallery presentation of Eva Hesse's work in the United States during the series of celebrated Museum retrospectives at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Museum Wiesbaden and the Tate Modern.

These exhibitions have prompted new discussion of Hesse's creativity and influence. In an environment of great artists, both teachers and friends, among them Josef Albers, Sol Lewitt, Mel Bochner and Carl Andre, her work developed quickly and with confidence in its exploration of new materials. Her experiments with liquid media, latex rubber and fiberglass, took her into a process combining elements of both painting and sculpture. The works she produced address an experience of art, not belonging to either abstract expressionism nor minimalism, yet borrowing from each to form a language that has grown in relevance in the years since the artist's death.
