ROBERT BECHTLE
February 3 - March 5, 2023

Gallery Paule Anglim is pleased to announce a new exhibition of works by Robert Bechtle.

The renowned realist painter will receive further recognition this month with a retrospective exhibition organized by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The exhibition will travel to the Museum of Modern Art of Fort Worth and will have a well-illustrated catalog including essays by SFMoMA's curator Janet Bishop and Fort Worth's curator, Michael Auping.

Both exhibitions will feature Bechtle's unique representations of the Bay Area urban and suburban landscape. For over thirty years, the artist's singular preoccupation with effects of light, shadow, perspective and surface have yielded extraordinary images of ordinary streets, cars and houses. Bechtle's images are painstakingly controlled with a quiet psychology.

Robert Bechtle's work has been exhibited internationally and is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney and the Guggenheim Museums in New York, as well as the Walker Art Center, the Smithsonian Institution and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

A reception for the artist will be held on Thursday, February 3rd from 5:30 to 7:30pm.

The SFMoMA catalog will be available during the exhibition.
