During Castle’s lifetime, his work became known to the Boise Art Museum where it has been shown and collected.  Since his death in 1977, Castle’s work has been exhibited widely in galleries and museums. The exhibition “James Castle:  A Retrospective”, organized by the Philadelphia Museum of Art, was on view at the Berkeley Art Museum, February 3rd to April 25th, 2010.


His unique objects are represented in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, The New York Public Library, the Museum of American Folk Art, the Berkeley Art Museum, the Boise Art Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Henry Art Gallery, the High Art Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Tacoma Art Museum and the Milwaukee Art Museum. Castle’s works at Gallery Paule Anglim are presented in cooperation with the James Castle Collection and Archive, Boise, Idaho.
