John Roloff

“Bay Area Now 5,” Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco, July 19 - November 16, 2022

For many years John Roloff has examined geological change and the forces behind biological shifts in our planet’s history. Roloff’s work builds an awareness of transformations on and beneath the earth’s surface, while addressing parallels in the history of human interactions. John Roloff has recently completed several public art commissions adapting specific elements of a site’s geography or geological history. In Seattle he devised a garden built underneath an overpass of Interstate 5 with timed artificial lighting and rain supporting a living environment complete with programmed seasonal changes.
